Book Review: Leapfrog by Nathalie Molina Niño

The point of Leapfrog isn’t to identify how tough it is to “break the glass ceiling” as a POC, or lament on how difficult is it to prove your merit as a minority - no, this book is all about leapfrogging all of those setbacks and pushing them far behind you on your march to the top.

Niño offers 5 sections of leapfrog hacks that deliver a total of 50 different hacks, and each is accompanied by a unique story of business success that was achieved by minorities, nearly all of them female.

Book Review: Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O'Neil

Today’s review is of the book Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O'Neil.

First of all, phenomenal title. Absolutely love that it made me laugh, and also made me super super intrigued, but the book itself is really fascinating.

So from an academic perspective, from a banking perspective, and then from a business perspective, she really digs into the rise of the algorithm, and what this means, and how both our government and our businesses are relying on this in a way that oftentimes does not serve the public good.

Now Is the Time to Be the Change in the B2B Sales World

I talk a lot about my early experience in sales. It’s where I cut my teeth in the business world and it’s the reason why, as a marketer, I largely focus on demand generation so that I play a pivotal role in helping the sales team fill pipeline and close deals.

I say it all the time.

I have the brain of a marketer, but the heart of a sales person.

Sure, I haven’t been on a sales team for some time, but I am the sole sales person for A Better Jones and this experience—of it being ALL on me—has only made me respect the profession more.

And it’s for this reason that I frequently find myself advocating for sales people, on social media, with marketers, and in private. After all, my first LinkedIn video to go viral was a plea to respect and appreciate sales development reps.

Book Review: The Myth of the Nice Girl by Fran Hauser

In “Myth of the Nice Girl”, Fran Hauser talks a lot about how to give nice feedback, how you be a nice mentor or how you look for a mentor as a nice person. How you deal with people that are not nice. How do you deal with bullies in the workplace and all kinds of other topics in between. What I really loved about it is that she told a lot of stories from women that she knows, but she’s also conducted a pretty intensive research survey on women in business before writing this book.

Elevate Company Influence By Hosting Events

If your company is looking for a way to stand out in your industry, and compete with the big dogs, hosting an event is an excellent way to gain more attention. And this is true for almost any industry, but B2B especially.

It’s particularly difficult for your business to be different from everyone else in the B2B world, because rarely does one company do something that’s radically unique, in comparison with the rest of the bunch. Using an event to show how much you care about your customers can automatically place your business at the top of consumers’ minds, however, and highlight you as an industry leader.
